Can we talk about how horrible 2020 is for a minute? I mean really. 99.9% of the time I’m sure we’re in some dystopian novel. And like most people, I’ve been wallowing and moping a bit.
We’re supposed to handle a pandemic, murder hornets, an incredibly divided country, Kanye 202, and maybe meth gators? It’s a lot. People are bored at home and choosing to pick fights on social media. Kindness and compassion are in short supply. For me, this time has been unbelievably toxic. My mental health needs a boost and I think it’s time to do some goal and intention setting for the second half of the year.
Here’s what I’m thinking!
- Write more! The school my girls go to part time has a school blog and I wrote a post for them last week. It reminded me how much I enjoy writing and I intend to make an effort to do it more often. I’m going to post more often here and also work on doing some more personal writing just for me.
- Step away from Facebook. I keep my account because it’s the best way for me to get local news, but it’s also a hotbed for hatred and I need to moderate how I use it. As my dad said “You can’t fix stupid” and sometimes it’s just not worth your energy to engage.
- Put down the electronics. I notice my patience is less when I spend time on my electronics. I’m always reading something or looking something up. I’m better off reading actual books and tending to my real environment.
- Take the time to organize and purge the house. When my house is chaotic, I’m chaotic. I want to take the time to get ahead of the house so that the effort required each day is significantly less and more manageable.
- I need to prioritize my health. Move my body more. Eat more fruits and veggies. Reduce my sweet tooth. The healthier body I have, the better all of me will work.
These are my intentions. I look forward to putting in the work to make sure they come to fruition.
